Dolby Atmos Speakers
Overhead ceiling speakers are fundamental to a Dolby Atmos home cinema system. Dolby Atmos is the next generation of surround sound audio. It delivers a more immersive spatial audio experience which is similar to that used in modern movie theatres. These speakers are all suitable for use as Dolby Atmos channels and provide good dispersion for 2 or 4 channel Atmos configurations.
"Dolby Atmos has reinvented how entertainment is created and experienced, allowing creatives everywhere to place each sound exactly where they want it to go, for a more realistic and immersive audio experience... Whether you’re gaming, watching your favourite film or series, or listening to that new track on repeat, Dolby Atmos transports you into a spatial sound experience that draws you in deeper, so you hear more and feel more." - dolby.com
Dolby Atmos is becoming increasingly popular with streaming services for movies, TV series, and music. As a result, we recommend Dolby Atmos speakers for the majority of surround sound systems. While angled Atmos speakers can be installed at the front or rear to minimise installation time, the only true Atmos systems are those with downward firing ceiling speakers (sometimes referred to as the 'voice-of-God channel'). For the most accurate and immersive Dolby Atmos experience, ceiling speakers are essential.
In a 5.1.2 or 7.1.2 system which has 2 Atmos channels, the speakers should be located forward of the listening position. Whereas in a 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 system which uses 4 Atmos channels, one pair should be located forward of the listening position, and one pair behind (but in front of the rear surround channels). Please see the Dolby website for further details on Dolby Atmos Speaker Setups.
